Gummo (1997) reference

Did anyone else consider if the bathtub scene might be a reference to the bathtub scene in Gummo (1997)? The wall and bathtub is kind of similar, and just reminded me of the famous scene in Gummo.

I don’t know if it’s too far stretched or wrong to assume, but I think there are a couple of similarities between the two films. The boys being about the same age (in the Little chapter) and both from a rough neighborhood and underprivileged lower class (Gummo’s being all white though, as far as I remember). If it is a reference, then a huge difference is Little being all alone in the Moonlight bathtub scene while Gummo has his mother drawing him the bath and feeding him candy bars and food. This might show just how alone and abandoned Little was when growing up.

Any thoughts?
