James McAvoy is so annoying in this movie

I don't know whether it's him, or just that he is a bad actor, or that the movie just sucks.

I think it's most probably all three.

reply

I thought he did a great job, and he deserves an Oscar nomination.

reply

We all think differently.

reply

Weird, isn't it?

reply

Dead right. But least we're civilised about it.

reply

Oh my god you avatar is so *beep* disgusting holy *beep*

Less than forget. But more than begun.

reply

You're here to talk about the movie.

reply

You look like Rickety Cricket: The Later Years.

Less than forget. But more than begun.

reply

He's a bad actor? I think you need a doctor.

reply

I dont know whether its you.. your avatar, your "i know everything" attitude or that you spout opinion without even offering one argument to back up what you say... but you are annoying on these message boards,

OHHH GOOOD FOR YOU!!

reply

I think it's a tricky type of role to play. Always looking like an acting exercise more than a performance. "OK start the lines as a guy from Brooklyn then when I clap my hands you're a nine year old...go!"

It reminded me of 2 (not so great) Star Trek episodes. One with Data and one with 7 o' 9 both doing this shtick. I think James Mac did a better job, but I sympathize with the challenge of making it not look...unintentionally hilarious. Speaking of which, "Unintentionally Hilarious" is a bit of a trademark of M.Night's work, kept waiting for the psychiatrist to say "You eyein' my lemon drink?".

And for some reason there is always one personality that's a little kid. I wonder if that is just for contrast or has some scientific precedence.

reply

I disagree, except for hedwig. Was I supposed to laugh, or cringe, or accept the grown man as a little kid obsessed with Kanye? It had to be comedic relief, the dance scene was hilarious.

reply

He was the movie so if you found him annoying, then you found the movie annoying.
So your last sentence makes sense in that regard.

Personally, I thought he was really entertaining and he's enjoying himself.

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down and a Wagging Finger of Shame

reply

*shrug* it takes some acting skill, to pull off multiple personalities, and it must have been challenging for him - but I think people are raving a little too much about his performance, like its fashionable or the in-thing, to say that its amazing. Is it really that amazing.

reply

I thought he did a really good job. The acting was a bit exaggerated, but I think that was so the audience could quickly tell one personality from the other and there wouldn't be any confusion.
