improv not funny

the improv scenes just arent funny. those scenes were scripted obviously, and you can tell. improv doesnt work in a movie. disappointing movie.

reply

Uh, they weren't scripted. The cast actually preformed improv shows for live audiences, and they had the camera man walk around with a steady cam.

Birbiglia says some of the scenes are scripted and others truly improvised, but he doesn't like to reveal which are which.

I don't think the movie is really about trying to make improv look funny.. it's more of a behind the scenes look at the lives of those who do improv and any performer trying to make it. Personally for me, the movie was fantastic. One of the best of the year

reply

For me, improv doesn't work, period. I almost never enjoy it. But I am very interested in sketch comedy and the comedy world generally, so I watched this and really liked it. 8/10

Its a movie about improv. Not a movie done in improv.

I'd say it's actually more of a movie about getting older and friendships.

reply

The improv scenes were really bad. Not even close to being funny. Not even worth smirking at.

reply

I might be wrong but I was under the impression that as the movie went on, some of the bits are supposed to be bad. After Jack lands the big job, their sharpness noticeably drops and fewer of the bits land.

Sam especially. (Though she's still the best of the group)

reply

People were paying five bucks a ticket for this crap. Not worth it. The appeal of improv is a mystery.
