jacks friends are awful!

wow i was actually stunned these were supposed to be people on their 30s, what a bunch of sore losers!

their friend achieves his dream and their immediate reaction is "*beep* this guy"

aside from his beyond poor choice of telling them during the bill dad thing, i actually really felt bad for jack the entire movie because he couldnt even enjoy his good fortune because everyone just made him feel like a dick

when you are new to ANY job you are supposed to keep your head down, not immediately ask the boss to hire your friends.

and that moment of miles freaking out at lindsay was beyond insane, basically no one is allowed to have success except miles!

some people just arent talented or dont have "it" its the not the universes job to reward people stuff just because they want it so much

i would hate to be friends with those people (except sam who was great) i am happy for my friends happiness and vice versa

I kinda felt like they acted like teenagers would. They were like living in their dream bubble world and acted like they had no idea about how the real world works.

Jack was awful too. What a selfish lame sell out. lol
Its not too surprising that Jacks struggling friends could react less than happily about Jacks success when friends, families, and careers are literally and figuratively on the verge of death.

Did he? did he get what they ALL wanted? Maybe. And can he be a selfish sellout about it? Yes.
I remember the scene where the group is watching that SNL type show that accepted Jack. They were not enjoying it, partly because of the death verge they were experiencing, leading to the snarky remarks about the shows hackish comedy, BUT even if they were in a bad mood they probably partly think that show does sucks ass on some base level or something... Well i personally feel like that about SNL.

THUS if you have to compromise your craft to make something hackish for fame and a large amount of money, that makes you a sellout; and to leave your friends/family in the process, and from the result of getting the SNL scouts attention with overshadowy showboatyness (something he agreed not to do in the first place, so the group can be funny together yet he still did Obama monologue)., THAT makes you a lame selfish sellout.

Buy what ever, jack was a cool guy too.
theres probably more interesting Jack character analysis to be had from observing the jack britta relationship but what ever i dont care.

They weren't awful, they were all going through an existential crisis. They had something and enjoyed doing it, but once that changed and they saw the success and career evolution of their friend, they felt the pressure of that and began reevaluating their place in life. They're not bad people and not bad friends, they're just a little lost.

I disagree that they're so awful. In fact, when Jack first tells them he got it they are stunned, but ultimately behave pretty happily and celebrate with him in a way that I give them kudos for. Being in a creative field is hard, and even harder when you see other people get what you want, but they behave pretty well when he first tells them about his success.

As things go on they could have behaved better, but Jack doesn't make it easy in some ways. How would you have felt when he switched your improv show in the middle to his act from Weekend Live and drew all the attention to himself? How would you feel if you were Jack's teacher and he got into Weekend Live instead of you? How would you feel if he took your act and carried it onto his new position that you wanted, and didn't give you any credit for it?

It's not to say that their reaction couldn't have been better, but the group's initial reaction was actually more gracious than most people's would have been.

They are immediately resentful, treat him like crap, and start nagging him to get them jobs. They treat the stoner chick the same way when she gets hired as a writer. They seem to think that opportunities should be turned down in favor of staying in their pitiful little amateurish show forever. They act like spoiled children. Truly an unappealing group of people.
