I understand every mother does the best she can

I'm glad I got the one I got.

That's all I'm saying...

lol. Maybe you can let us know to which one you're referring that you may seem to be disappointed in?

Mae, the way she was carrying on with Grace after Grace's sleepover. In this case, it was what she was saying and how she was saying it. Her tone is like the lash of a whip. Letting children know they''ll never measure up no matter what they do is no bueno. After outliving one daughter, I would think she would adjust her way of communicating, no matter how upset she is.

I know it's an actress playing out how a character was written, but it's hard to not project these scenes onto a real-life perspective.

Seriously! I really don't think any of them qualifies for mother of the year.

Grace hasn't been bad with Sophia so far, except when Sophia was trying to discuss the story of the Levite and Grace was all "Yeah, I dunno".

The mother is cold as ice. Especially when it comes to Grace. I wonder, if it was always that way, or maybe it became strained after Grace's sister Faith died, and the mother is so cold because seeing one daughter reminds her that she failed the other.

Yeah, that whole dynamic is weird. This season is still setting up everything, but Season 2 will surely be ripe for Mae's backstory, and why she has an ax to grind with everyone.

greeneye, I don't think it became strained only after the sister died. Didn't Grace come back because the sister had died? Or maybe I'm getting it wrong. Please correct me. If it wasn't for that reason, then why did she come back after 20 years?

I got the impression the sister died years earlier, but I could be wrong. Also, the mother wants to control everything, from her husband to the church and her children and Grace can't be controlled. I think she also feels betrayed and anger, because Grace gets along with her aunt (the mother's sister) and she's more like her aunt. I hope in the second season, we get to see more about the mother, the aunt, and the child raping uncles past and what made each one become so different.

I understood what you meant from the beginning and I agree.
