So is this worth watching?

Have recorded the episodes so far but haven't had a chance to watch them. Should I continue recording it, is it worthwhile?

I love space-type shows but so many of them are disappointing. I sure hope this one isn't dull. They've apparently put a lot of money into it.

So is it compelling at all?

reply

interesting? yes.
compelling? no.

we've already seen this (and seen it done much better).

reply

Yeah this show just doesn't have it. I just came here to rate it a 4/10. I am very disappointed, because I had really high hopes.

reply

So is this worth watching?

That's something only YOU can decide.

reply

(Obviously, I realize that; just looking for some feedback, which if all negative would prob cause me to delete it off my DVR.)

Thanks, guys. Guess I will check it out but not expect a whole lot.

reply

yes... surely check it out... some cool stuff!!

reply

Try a few episodes and decide. It is OK to me. It's not great or bad.

no

It's sad when they spend so much money and effort on a series and then don't make it really good, right? Maybe they needed more sci-fi writers and fewer scientists working on it.

It's nothing but a politically correct, social justice warrior circle jerk where all hands are on China's cock.

The first transport is away... hey!

reply

Now there's a review I hadn't seen before

reply

Yes educational and entertaining

reply

Just finished the first episode. I'm liking it too, tho I'm a little annoyed that they go back & forth between the present and future. Oh well, I'll manage somehow.

reply

Actually the jumping back to 2016 allows you to relate to what's going on in the future - especially in the later episodes.

I hope you persevere as it's a very worthwhile series. I've been waiting for us to get to Mars since I was a kid - if we get there by the 2030's - I should be still around to witness it.

It'll be some event.

reply

Seems so UTTERLY problematic tho, doesn't it? Makes me think it'll be another 100 years before we're ready. So many details, so many contingencies to be concerned with.

reply

It is one hell of a technological nightmare to get there. However the rate of technical progress is accelerating every year - and you never know there could be a huge breakthrough in engine technology so we can get there in weeks instead of months.

It's basically down to our will to get there. I think 2039 is feasible - but it maybe between 2045 - 2060 which will probably mean I miss it (or be too old to realise what's going on).

I would accept your figure of 100 years too.

reply

Yes.

reply

No! It's amazingly boring. Bland as bland can be. And, it's been done before, and better, like in "Race to Mars." Best to find DVD's of that on ebay, etc., and just watch that instead.

It's head-slappingly amazing how absolutely inert this thing is.

reply

I suppose, if you're used to superhero movies and video games these days. For those of us who prefer something more cerebral, it's pretty good.

reply

Kinda sorta. It's educational and somewhat entertaining. I give it a 7.1/10.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.

I just watched the episode last night where the woman goes down the cord into the lava cave ... wow, that was scary! (Who would do that?? Not me!) So, I'm finding it VERY compelling at this point. Maybe it'll continue to get better & better - ?

reply

I would say that if one is so dedicated to their profession that they are brave enough to make a one-way journey to MARS, that person is likely not afraid of being lowered 200+ meters into the skylight. I would think the only thing to fear would be whether or not the splicing of the cables would hold.

reply

I agree. And I was thinking about that cable too! Seemed a bit thin, but I guess that doesn't mean it isn't strong. And of course the woman weighed less than a man.

Good scene.

reply

And gravity is .38 of Earth's so she wouldn't weigh much. It's too bad that they don't show this difference in the show.. the colonists are trudging around just like on Earth.

reply

Yeah, I sure wonder about that! They're making little effort to show the difference. And isn't it awfully cold or hot? They act like they're in their CA back yard. Good point about the gravity thing; I shouldn't have been so nervous when she was being lowered down.
