Almost every story seems like the last ten minutes of a feature junk horror movie. Oh, they tied it together? Who gives a crap when there's no context? This movie is positively enraging.
The entire time I watched this utter debacle I was reminded of the 80s Twilight Zone episode "Kentucky Rye."
You're wrong. And if this was LITERALLY the most incompetent storytelling you've seen in years then you clearly don't watch too many studio horror movies....
There are definitely movies (and particularly horror movies) with worse writing.
But I do think that the story lacked overall cohesion and there was something lackluster about how it held together as a whole. I think that this is very typical with multiple directors or writers. "The Accident", for example, had a blend of nightmarish intensity and giddy gore--but that vibe was totally missing from any of the other segments.
There are worse, but I feel like there were some strong concepts in Southbound and it could have been much stronger.
I'd probably rather watch "The Accident" five times in a row than rewatch the entire movie again.
I felt like most of the segments lacked punch and their endings were far too predictable. I know that short stories have a more limited time to establish character and context, but there was a distinct lack of energy to most of the entries here. Just my opinion.
