What to expect?

Is this mainly focused on Brazilian viewers?

reply

It was inspired by a brazilian web series with the same name. Look in youtube for 3% webseries, its available for watching for free. As the focus, it´s sci fi and may be appreciated by lovers of the genre around the world.

This is based on a book. See other thread!

No, it actually isn't. It's based on a web series from 2011.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_rvS7nX7pM

The show is aimed at Netflix’s subscribers worldwide, not just Brazil. Ultimately, the series questions the dynamics of society that imposes constant selection processes we all have to go through in our lives - wherever that is.

reply

And so what if it is? Almost everything that's on Netflix is usa center. A change it would be nice

reply

Doesn't really matter. Watch it, it's worth reading the subtitles for. Great premise and bunch of characters you can relate to.

reply

If the subtitles are a problem there is an option for English dubbing.

reply

Yeah. I have it on English audio with subtitles OFF. The lip sync is almost perfect for most of it.

reply

Really when I first started I was reluctant to continue because the whole thing was in Spanish but the storyline and really the acting is very good. 100% woudl recommend to others.

reply

Yes ik it was in Portuguese, but I can't go back and edit comments my bad.

reply

It's good and, in some ways, a detailed Gattaca. The more narrow minded anglophiles will get upset with subtitles but frankly *beep* them for missing out. It's a big world with many perspectives and where better than sci-fi to exercise those muscles? I, for one, am on board.

reply

I'm only on the fourth episode but so far it's brilliant, in any language. The subtitles are worth the tiny effort. You get so engrossed that glancing at them for content is not distracting at all. I suspect watching a dubbed version would cost some of the intensity of the acting.

The themes are universal and don't rely on any specific culture or language for relevance.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

The subtitles are much better written than the spoken English script, which is actually dumbed down for some reason and sounds like bad 80's Manga. Some bad casting of the major character voices there too. Stick to the original Brazilian, much more emotive performances and stronger dialogue.
I only switched part way during Ep 4, as I was doing some work and couldn't concentrate on the screen fully and gave it 20 minutes worth before changing back again and immediately prefering it. Keep it real folks.

I hate subtitles - it feels like I'm doing two things (reading and watching) and I end up doing neither very well and miss stuff.

The English dub isn't that bad. There are places where it's obvious the translation fails to capture the original intent, and some of the names sound funny to non -brazillians (I'd never heard the names Bruna or Michelley).

But this can be enjoyed without intrinsic cultural knowledge.

It's definitely worth checking out.

Bad acting, but good storyline.
