It has overtones of all those teen novels turned into movies alright, that plague the modern era, plus the '97 film Cube, The Library of Babel etc etc.

It's a sub-genre all of it's own. Nice to see a different cultural slant on it though.

So, I'm not yet done the first episode, but there is so much of it that feels almost identical to The Hunge Games (book by Suzanne Collins)

I mean, maybe it's just one of those teen dystopian heroics things where they all meld together eventually...

The inspiration for the plot came from the books 1984 by George Orwell and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, according to the creator.
