but this thing is coming across as solid as some of the fan fiction from star trek lines. It seems to have a good story line but watching and hearing this in English is almost painful. I wish I had a better command of Brazilian Portuguese as I am sure it would play better.

I've heard the English dubbing is not very good indeed, but why don't you try it in original audio with English subtitles?
shareYou're quite correct-- most of the English dub was poorly done. It comes across as really "cartoony" like the Chinese-to-English dubbing they do for Asian movies. It borderlines as unwatchable due to the poor dubbing. The worse character's dubbing was by far for Ezequiel's character.
I watched it the first time with English audio and English subs. I am going to watch the series all over, but this time in Brazilian Portuguese with English subs.

shareI watched it in Portuguese with English subtitles, and then in the dubbed English with English subtitles (just to see if there were any differences), and the English dubbing was off or not as clear as the Portuguese. I speak Spanish as one of 6 languages (not Portuguese, but I can understand 85-90% of what is spoken, but I can hardly speak Portuguese. I am fluent in Spanish, which helped fill in my 15% gap). The dubbed English was convenient for friends of mine who didn't want to miss the action by read the subtitles, although there were sometimes minor, but there were also major differences between the dubbed English and the Portuguese. I recommend watching it in Portuguese with whatever language subtitles you are most comfortable reading.

shareThis American prefers subtitles over dubbing every time. Dubbing is annoying and sounds fake, no matter how well it's done. With subtitles, you get the look and feel of the production without those little annoying inconsistencies that dubbing produces.
Life can be arbitrary and comes without a warranty.
Sometimes I'm in a situation where the screen cannot be monitored 100% of the time. Nothing against subtitles at all.

Other than if you're dyslexic - I don't understand why people would watch a dubbed version and not the original audio with subtitles. Makes no sense to me. So you have to read a bit? So what? You can still take in everything that's happening...well...hopefully...
