At First I Thought...

This was either a TV series version or a blatant rip-off of the Chevy Chase Vacation movies, but I read it was based on Samantha Bee's and Jason Jones' real experiences with family vacations.

I think it looks like what the recent Vacation remake/sequel/requel SHOULD have been. Hopefully it's good.

reply

Haha yes I agree, I thought the new one had some lol moments, but yes let's keep our fingers crossed about this being better.

Just saw the first episode after the Final Four game. Really liked it. Watched it just because I lurve Natalie Zea, but it was surprisingly good.

I hope it's more realistic than the Vacation sequels involving travel, i.e. one or both parents trying to salvage a good vacation after very plausible setbacks like illness, car trouble, missed flights, lost wallet/credit card/cash, reservations given away or botched, underwhelming destinations, and results not meeting expectations.

I thought the pilot was great and shows a lot of promise. It's definitely reminiscent of the Vacation series and the first episode itself was already better than the reboot. (Is it just me, or does the dad character look like Ed Helms too?) I'm a huge fan of road trip comedies so I added it to my list.

It might be just you! 
But the two of them did work together on The Daily Show.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

reply

No, not just you, he does look like Ed Helms.

reply

Agreed. He has a similar vibe, as well. In fact, Ed Helms was my first thought 2 mins into Jason's appearance/performance.

reply

Just two episodes in but it looks exactly like what the latest Vacation movie should have been.

reply

I liked the first episode, but this seems like it will be hard to sustain as a series. It is very Vacation-esque and probably should be a movie. I guess we'll see.

reply

This is already better than the latest Vacation movie. I wish that movie had been written by these people then I would have actually laughed while watching it.

reply

You can make a show about vacations and have it not be a "rip off" of the Chevy Chase film. There were many vacation films before that one.

What we got here is... failure to communicate!

To me, it literally seems like a pretty decent mix of the old and new Vacation movies.

Fun fact: In reality, the couple has a child named Fletcher (Chevy Chase tie). ^_^
