When Javier busts into her motel room in 1x01 he says, "2 sucide attemps, 6 OD's, and 4 abortions." I was curious why she didn't choose to abort Jacob. Was it because who the father is? Was she trying to be a good person when she found out she was pregnant?
shareThat's a good question. I'm guessing from a writer's standpoint they needed Jacob as a reason to actually want to better herself. It seems her only reason to get her life back on track is to regain custody.

When you're allowed to get one can vary from state to state... I've not much idea about how prisons work, but I'm assuming perhaps it might be difficult to get an abortion as an inmate?
Especially if they are publicly or even privately/corporately run for profit, and maybe even have a heavy Christian based reform program that helps dictate the rules, and so of course wont allow abortion.

Ah, this is a good point. I guess I was just curious if it has something to do with the story later on, or if like Gracie said, it was just thrown in the script to make her try to keep her life on track.

Of course it's possible she had the 4 AFTER having Jacob because she didn't want to have any more due to how badly her life was going and how bad a job she did with him. Some women also have a hard time getting pregnant after that many abortions, and it didn't seem she was trying so it seems more likely Jacob would have been the first one.
