Letty's Son should be Lighter

The Sight of Pale as a Ghost Michelle Dockery having a Black son is a bit comical

Her kid should have a lighter skin tone

reply

Just like mixing paint, right?

Possibly but not necessarily, skin tone is not genetically additive or multiplicative.

We don't know anything about Letty's father, just that her mother is a blond white woman. If Letty's father was black or biracial, and her son's father was black, it's completely plausible her child could have dark skin and kinky hair.

My grandparents were darker skinned Blacks (sorta like Danny Glover). My grandfather's grandfather was Italian. My grandmother is mixed with English (very light, light eyes) and American Indian amongst her grand and great grandparents.

Between 6 kids these two dark skinned black people had 1 child who was light enough to pass for Hispanic who had a fraternal twin that was brown skinned like the parents. Another one of their children was a member of the "paper bag club": clearly Black but with very light skin, lighter than Halle Berry.

So yeah, it's possible.

Darling, I am trouble of the most spectacular kind!

The son would usually be lighter, but it's not unheard of for him to take heavily after the father. They even made a point of acknowledging that they didn't really look alike except for the eyebrows. I'm assuming this will be a major plot point down the road, unless the writers had never heard of Chekhov's gun.

I'm so ugly...that's ok 'cause so are you.

reply

You know that's not really her kid right? They picked an actor for the role hopefully hopefully using his acting potential and not his pigment.

reply

Where you from? South Dakota?

Millennial = Homo Sapiens born 1990 or after; Losers who think they know everything but don't

reply

Lmao! Or perhaps Iowa.

Someone need to take a course in Genetics. LOL @ the 'mixing paint' comment.

I have a cousin that descended from a planter that had a liaison with his house slave in 1700's Virginia; a child came from it. He adopted the child and raised him. Generations ensued with nothing but intermarriage with other whites. My cousin has four daughters; three are blond and green eyed, one definitely looks mixed race and gets asked if she is all the time. In fact, she's more attracted to black men and is dating one now. Go figure.

Glad somebody got it. That kind of thinking has caused many a relationship riff dud to the appearance of a baby.
