"Pretty Woman"

I loved the "Pretty Woman" reference. How stupid was that clothing store employee to be condescending to Letty? I think Letty really intended to pay with the credit card that time, but she just couldn't help stealing them after the woman was rude to her.

Some of these $5.00 an hour store clerks are quite uppity. They know they can't afford the clothes, so they profile certain customers by appearance alone and assume they can't either. The clerk was really annoying with her snippy comments about "not on sale" and whether the clothes would fit Lettie.

They should really check that attitude. There are people walking around Delaware in frumpy clothes, but their last names are DuPont. You never know to whom you are talking!

That's true. And though I don't condone stealing, I cheered Lettie for lifting a couple of things from that shop. Maybe the loss will come out of that clerk's little paycheck, lol!!!

reply

I thought the clerk was just mad about her taking all the clothes off the rack. I shop at Kohls and the ladies there get mad if you take too much bc they have to put it back. Then she made the sale comment.

Letty could be any suburban mom who dressed casual for shopping.

Funny thing was that the outfit she ended up in at dinner was so frumpy to me. Letty usually looks great when she gears up for an outing.

I completely agree cpmorr. It wasn't even a dress-just a mediocre skirt and top. Of course, she didn't know she was gonna be meeting the entire family, but still! I guess she didn't want him to think it was stolen?

reply

Really? I loved that top. It looked like she was going for a cute/approachable "girl next door" look, which is about perfect for meeting your in-laws for the first time. If she showed up to meet the family wearing any of her "power lawyer" or "trophy wife" outfits, she wouldn't be a very believable con artist.

It's not like she showed up in jeans and a printed ninja turtles t-shirt from Target.

Well, yes; putting on a modest front for the parents may well have been her motivation, and it's clear that she revels in being a chameleon.
