Anyone think Willow's mother is Dr. Dibs? The last shot of her, which is the last shot of the movie, resembles Dibs so much it's hard to think otherwise. If that's the case it's a kind of twist that seems to have no reason to it, which is to say it doesn't seem to matter. If it's not the case, then it seems strange the director would allow a shot that may mislead people. Perhaps I saw things incorrectly but I was struck by the resemblance.

She looked like Dibs to me, I thought it was implied that she was her mother. Egg sneak maybe? They showed her inseminating Boyse, but maybe not everything that went into her.
shareNot sure how Dibs did it, but yeah, the resemblance of that last shot is just too great to think otherwise imo. And before they board the ship Willow asks if she looks like her mother (Monte says "no") which seems to serve up the revealing last shot.
While I liked the twist it also struck me as a bit odd, somewhat out of place for a movie where observation takes precedence over narrative. But maybe Willow represents redemption for Dibs. (And for Monte as well for that matter.) Redemption seems to be a theme, especially reflected in Monte.
I've been thinking about this, and you're right, there is a definite resemblance in the shot, however it makes no sense logically that Willow would be Dibs' child. The story skips Boyse's actual pregnancy, but presumably there would no question who the baby belongs to, because it will have been Boyse who carried the baby, and Boyse who gives birth to the baby. We don't actually see it, but no one seems to question it, so there's no way Dibs could be the mom?

The last shot of Willow looks so much like Binoche it's hard to believe it's accidental and that the director didn't think it would mislead or didn't care if it did.
