I just purchased the 'Umbrella Entertainment' DVD and watched it last evening.
I thought that it was quite good, really. I especially liked Martin Sheen in it.
A very nice story.
My only question is that posters on this board keep referring to a 'Two Hour Film'.....well, according to IMDb, the running time is 1 hr 30 mins, and MY version states '85 mins' on the cover.
What am I missing here?

It's 2 hours when aired on television (because of the commercial breaks).
I really have to applaud Martin's version of Matthew. I think he was my favorite one out of the whole movie.

He was totally different than Richard Farnsworth's Matthew. So I guess if you didn't appreciate Farnsworth's interpretation...
shareBut who's saying they didn't appreciate Richard's version? I didn't say that and the person that replied to me didn't knock Richard either. So where are you getting that we're knocking Richard? Personally I like both. It was nice seeing a different twist. I describe it this way---have you ever watched "Roseanne" before? If you have, do you know about the two actresses playing Becky? The writers clearly had fun with the Becky changes. Lecy and Sarah's Becky are total opposites. It would've been easy for them to to tell Martin "Sit down and watch the 80s version of Anne of Green Gables. I want you to get up there and act like Richard's version of Matthew." People would've been slamming that if we were to see a watered down version of Martin Sheen acting like Richard Farnsworth.
They were so diametrically opposed, it seems impossible to like both! You have been very clear that you love the 1985 version in your posts, and I respect your opinion. I just can't be as kind towards this one as you are. Matthew to me, is an iconic character. It would be like an actor playing Sherlock Holmes as a warm sweet kind human being. I generally am the last one to complain when a movie didn't follow the book closely enough. I always try to judge a movie on it's own terms. But this one just really got my goat. Sorry if I offended.
