I enjoy the show, but hate the format

Does anyone else wish this was a weekly 30 minute show instead of the 2-hour installments? I find myself getting bored after a little while and watching it in 20 minute chunks, anyway.

A typical 30 minute show has 22 minutes to fill. If they are 3 minute rounds, they could show 4 full matchups and still have 10 minutes for commentary and background stories.

I've also noticed this season appears to be directed by the same people who do American Ninja Warrior, in that they have way too many background stories on bots that get knocked out quickly, and have to show quick recaps of many of the fights because there's no time left. People are watching for the robot carnage, not to see people's life stories.

I like the format. There are enough fights to please me, and I actually want to hear about the bots. I think there's a good balance and am more than anything else relieved it's not a reality competition format with viewer votes, challenges jockeying for position, ending in an single elimination match at the end of an episode. This could have been more like Survivor, and that's not a good thing for a sport.

There maybe less back stories since we have already seen all the bots once. For the next rounds it will probably be more pit footage of them getting their bots put back together.

But I always "tape" it and do a slight amount of fast forwarding.

I would actually like to see them working on the bots before and after fights to get them ready, definitely more interesting then builders back story.

There's so many stupid, annoying commervials there's hardly any bot fights as it is. The number of commercials on TV these days is ridiculous.

I can't stand the format. Tonights is an hour long, so if I was producing this show, I would get 6 fight in. 1 every 10 minutes. Not every fight lasts the full round, so I would fill the other time on commercials and backstory. Actually, much less backstory and more about building and repairing the bots themselves. I don't care about who the people are, so a quick one liner about them is all that is needed. Such as, team Brain Crusher is out of Texas, a group of engineers. Then go into the Bot.

IDK about everyone else, but I come here for the bots and the carnage. I want to know if the bots have 10 inch wheels or 8. If 4 engines are separately running each wheel or is it only 2 wheel drive. How thick or thin the armor is. Stuff like that. Maybe even an inside shot of the bot without its body armor. That is what I want to know. I could go on, but I think my point has been made.

I'm with you. I've participated in the redneck predecessor to this competition; it's called 'Demolition Derby.' I don't care about anybody's back stories; I want to see a FIGHT.

Tonight, July 21, was a better episode. We got to see a little bit of what some bots looked under the skirts, I mean armor. But still some unnecessary commentary hype, but at least we saw some great destruction in one fight.

Yeah I don't watch live i record it and fast forward to fights every time. Or I watch fights on youtube.

Yeah, they should really focus on the battles and it's absurd that they have to cut/recap some fights to make time for those SportsCenter-style segments and overly-long fight intros and to some degree the backstories but those can be pretty interesting. I suppose they're trying to appeal to broad audiences with those SportsCenter things where they talk about the bracket but they just go on too long. Do the in-between segments really do better with test audiences than the battles or what? Very confusing.

I do like the after-fight interviews, the overall production quality of the fights, and surprisingly the commentators are great and add a lot to the battles. And I do prefer when teams have some kind of theme, style, and personality, especially if they can back it up with a great bot.
