Sweet 16: Care to predict?

Here are the Sweet 16 matchups according to Battlebots.com. Let's see who thinks what will get through:

Tombstone v Brutus
Nightmare v Beta
Bite Force v Chomp
Mega Tento v Yeti
Bronco v Razorback
Minotaur v Warhead
Red Devil v Bombshell
Poison Arrow v Hypershock

I'm going with:
Tombstone (KO). I don't think Brutus' vertical spinner will be enough to upend the 1 seed, though will score some good hits.

Nightmare (KO). Beta is the overall better bot. But it's going to find a hard time finding a solid contact point on this vertical spinner that slopes along the legs. Upset of the round.

Bite Force (KO). Let Chomp land on its side as it is wont to do and then just go to work.

Yeti (Unanimous). The favors will run out here for MT. The plastic will be shredded, but MT is solid enough to avoid being knocked out. There will be too much damage for justifying her to another round.

Bronco (Unanimous). Bronco can get lower than Razorback to control the fight, but the other bot is solid. It can last 3 minutes unless Bronco flips it out of the ring.

Minotaur (KO). Fight of the Sweet 16! This is kind of a cheat. I'm only saying Minotaur because the show seems to be giving it an awful lot of coverage. This one could go either way.

Red Devil (KO). RD has good driving, and Bombshell has large vulnerable rear sides. RD only needs one good grapple on a side where the Bombshell's weapon is useless, and this one writes itself.

Poison Arrow (KO). Forget the drone (I think it's the only drone left, but when has it mattered?) PA's wide drum will be difficult to avoid and the PA are decent drivers.

Tombstone v Brutus
Tombstone (KO): I don't even think Brutus will get any hits. I'd even be surprised if hitting Brutus will affect Tombstone in anyway. Unless they do some last minute redesign to Brutus.

Nightmare v Beta
Beta (KO): I think Beta could withstand a hit or two from Nightmare. And if Beta gets in a luck hit, it will do enough damage. Unless Beta knocks itself over and Nightmare gets in fast enough.

Bite Force v Chomp
Bite Force (split decision): Chomp will knock itself over and Bite Force will go in for some hits. But I don't think Bite Force's weapon is strong enough KO Chomp.

Mega Tento v Yeti
Yeti (unanimous): Agree with everything you said. But I am hoping it's a KO and Yeti destroys MT

Bronco v Razorback
Bronco (KO): It's a long shot but I'm going to put my money on Bronco knocking Razorback out of the ring. Yes, I like to gamble.

Minotaur v Warhead
Minotaur (Unanimous): I think Warhead has a strong enough spinning shield to take some hits from Minotaur and enough driving experience to not be continuously out flanked.

Red Devil v Bombshell
Red Devil (KO): I think RD will get one of Bombshell's treads and cut through it.

Poison Arrow v Hypershock
Hypershock (split decision): I'm not going against the team that brought us the rake.

So far I'm wrong on two, half right on one (it wasn't judges decision) and almost all right on the fourth (it was a KO but didn't get knocked out of the arena). I'm afraid to look at my bracket.

reply

Well, as I predicted "My prognostication powers" are horrible! I missed three and was right on only one of the four so far (and Bronco didn't flip his friend out of the ring either).

More pain next week with the next four I suppose. 

The beheading of Warhead was pretty spectacular though.

reply

Good thing we don't have any money on this

3-1 so far. Not too shabby.

Mr_G

Let me watch next weeks episode and I'll get back to ya. Haha, what I really need to do is watch some of their previous fights since I have forgotten a few of the bots, but I'll get back to you and post my predictions.

Tombstone v Brutus
Tombstone (KO): In 55 seconds or less. Brutus will make one hit and then get obliterated.

Nightmare v Beta
Nightmare (split decision) Beta will get one or two hits. Nightmare will outdrive Beta and go in and score points during one of the times Beta goes belly up and before it can right itself.

Bite Force v Chomp
Bite Force (unanimous decision): Chomp will knock itself over several times as it frequently seems to and Bite Force will go in to take advantage. I think Bite Force will take out Chomp's weapon and therefore its ability to do damage.

Mega Tento v Yeti
Yeti (unanimous): Agree with everything said. And I am hoping as well for a KO with Yeti destroying that horrid excuse for a bot named MT

Bronco v Razorback
Bronco (KO): Razorback is dangerous and has great ability to right itself. But I believe Bronco with that incredible flipper will send Razorback out of the ring.

Minotaur v Warhead
Warhead (split decision): This is my upset pick. Minotaur has proven itself dangerous but also has come close to losing. They are vulnerable. So I think Warhead will take note from those who lost and pull this one out.

Red Devil v Bombshell
Red Devil (KO): "I think RD will get one of Bombshell's treads and cut through it." Concur!

Poison Arrow v Hypershock
Hypershock (split decision): This will be a great match up. I may be wrong but I "have" to pull for the rake, especially since PA has a drone. Even if HS loses I bet that drone goes down. All hail the rake.

I have Minotaur as one of my final two in my bracket. If it loses to Warhead, my bracket is useless

reply

My prognostication powers stink so your bracket is probably safe. My NCAA Men's bracket was blown apart halfway through the round of 32. 

Some good analysis, y'all.

reply

Eh. 5-3 for the Sweet 16. I was two seconds short of getting the Nightmare upset pick. Beta escaped that one.
