Danish version

Danish TV bought the format and have sent 10 contestants to Norway.

The show is airing now. I don't expect them to last for very long.

One contestant has a fishing surplus and is keeping fish alive in small reservoirs (called "hyttefad"), storing them for later.

Wow, very cool. I can't help but wonder if survivalists there are on the same spectrum as the ones here? At one end we have the crunchy granola nature enthusiasts, at the other end the preppers who are stockpiling for the end of the world. Do you have this phenomenon there?

Thanks so much! 'North of the Arctic Circle' makes living in South America sound like a cake walk.
I was once far enough North (in Canada) we could see the Northern lights at night.
It is beautiful to behold. It's comparable to seeing the ocean for the first time.
If a contestant has a fish surplus, they may have better gear?
The Danes must be a rugged crew!

Or they have better fishing skills. Any of us can throw out a fishing line. Maybe we catch something and maybe we don't. But an experienced fisherman knows the signs, the best times of day, what depth to put the hook based on the position of the bobber/float, etc.

Or, more fish, better waters. It does sound like they know more about fishing in Danish waters. Also I think one of their main foods is fish, unlike the Americans who many live on MickyDees, ugh.

Yes, there is that. But look at how many people on Alone don't catch anything for days. Then they catch 1 fish and go rushing off to eat it, rather than thinking: "Hey, they're biting. I should try to get some more." Seems like the only time they keep fishing is when they don't get enough in 1 fish for a single meal. Glad to see the one this time talking about smoking fish for future use.

And many Americans probably think the fish at McDonalds comes out of the water square and breaded. LOL

It's pretty great now. The guy in the lead is called Jon and he definitely knows what he is doing. In 9 days he has caught 50 fish. He knows when and where the fish are and keeps the net in optimal condition. And is storing 6 fish alive for later... oh, and he also happened to find a sixpack on the beach. Saving them for later, of course.

The others are just the usual pathetic bunch, bumbling along and starving.

North of the arctic circle? Seems kind of odd.

Not really.
I live a couple of miles south of the polar circle and we are able to survive all winter because we adapt to the conditions.
But if you drop me off in the jungle, I would probably get myself killed within a week.

I know about snow, bears and reindeer. But I have no idea how to handle a frickin puma, identify poison oak or cut bamboo.
