Amelia's accent
Is this what a Lexington, Kentucky accent sounds like (where the actress is from), or is she doing a very bad attempt at a "Southern belle" accent?

shareKentuckians don't all have accents. Sometimes in the same family one sibling will have a southern accent while another does not. Sometimes it's more of a Appalachian hillbilly accent than a southern accent.
shareI've met quite a few Kentuckians (I was just there less than two weeks ago as well), and that's not quite what they sound like, at least the ones I've heard.

no young ppl in the south talk like that disney just likes perpetuating southern stereotypes...

You misinformed peoplele. I live in Kentucky. Southeastern Kentucky. And am in Lexington once a week. Southeastern Kentucky has a much deeper accent than Lexington. But not all of Kentucky has that deep of an accent. No matter what part you live in. The older generation does have that deep of a southern draw however. Someone did say it right though and some family members do and some do not. If any of Kentucky has less of an accent than the rest it would be Lexington.
I looooooove her accent even though Disney makes her stretch it out some.
yes some young ppl have it but disney makes sure every southern character on their shows is a farmer's kid with an obvious accent

Agreed. I'm a native Texan and I often cringe at the so-called Texas accents on Disney, and on media in general. So many times, people have told me, "You don't sound like you're from Texas." Seriously, no two Texans are going to sound exactly alike. Texas is a *huge* state, with some very large cities to boot. Houston, for example, is likely to surpass Chicago in population within the next decade, and Houston is a massive melting pot of people and cultures. But, of course, TV and movies tend to ignore Houston altogether, especially when it comes to big-city Texas accents. Yeah, I'm mainly just sick of the stereotypes they're helping churn out.

Yea its media in general. But its rare anyone from Kentucky makes it big time, let along Disney channel. I hate to see Kentucky stereotyped like "hillbilly" or "redneck"but it does happen. That's just the world we live in. Got to cheer for her at least. She's doing awesome so far.
shareI agree. It's nice to see people from the southern states getting more and more roles lately for a change. Amelia is my favorite character on the show, and I hope things continue going well for her!

I've heard of people from Ohio who have southern drawls. At the same time, not that many people from Florida have them, mainly because a lot of people from Florida weren't born in Florida. You just confirmed the same was with Texas, which is why it never really phased me that most of the characters on "Beavis and Butt-Head" (especially the two main characters) didn't have what a lot of people think of as Texas accents. Incidentally, many Disney starlets themselves are from Texas, and you can barely hear any evidence of a twang in their voices.
The thing that puzzles me about Amelia's accent though, is that while DeVore Ledridge is from Kentucky, most of the show's characters are from California. So how does she get this accent? Is Miss Duckworth originally from somewhere in the south?
