"The witches take turns inside her head"
What does that quote from the movie mean?
What does the hair weave represent? The possible fact that the souls of the former slaves were seeking vengeance? That they were out for blood because of the horrid past they had to endure? Or that the white man, by the very fact of the dominating aspect of his nature, engendered chaos and destruction in the lives of Black people in the present day?
I know that the hair can represent one's soul and the condition that it is in. I have very curly hair myself, and this movie taught me to embrace my God-given locks for what they are. In other words, I saw the beauty of God's creation and make no attempts to change it.
The movie seems to be saying that by refusing to wear weaves, Black women honor their souls - represented by the hair on their heads - and thereby proudly declare to the universe that we are self-secure and grateful for its gifts and blessings. We also embrace our individuality and autonomy in our own eyes and the eyes of our peers.
Pretty cool movie. Really gets you thinking.
