Just cut the Hawk/Ashley storyline

Another couple like Sean/Mary that is nothing but a pair of puppets to make drah-mah happen.

Hawk is a Meyerist. He's such a Meyerist he wants to go full Meyer before the appointed Time.

But Ashley is his life, his very life! We must take this seriously, because Hawk is emo and 15 years old!

Then they break up because Hawk is a Meyerist.

Hawk just might not be a Meyerist after all. Once again, Ashley is his life, his very life! Then it's for sure: Hawk is no longer a Meyerist. He will leave his family for her, because she is his life!

Then they break up. Hawk returns to his family, which he permanently renounced five minutes earlier. He might be a Meyerist again.

Bella and Edward were never this annoying.

I agree the Hawk/Ashley storyline is tedious, but at least Episode 9 finally moved their story forward. They’ve finally established the very harsh and cruel disconnection policy storyline which is the reason so many people never leave cults.

That's pretty much the "why" of too many of these characters: they're there to demonstrate something about the Meyerist world and they have little depth or will of their own. With Hawk's constant mood swings, I wasn't convinced that any of his decisions would be permanent or that we would see a harsh and cruel disconnection. Plus he's emo as hell and only 15. All I can see is hormones and teen melodrama.

It almost seems the show is making me forget about any movement and is just a washed drama with a "movement" undertone. Like a very light undertone. I'd like both drama and belief elements to meet half-way with better quality. Much of it is he said/she said please love me shenanigans.

That's exactly it! The way these writers are going at it, we could have all the hyped-up heartbreak and romance of your normal soap opera without the cult. Just substitute family feuding or the old standby, a hospital, and you could have Hawk and Ashley easy. Same for Sean and Mary.
