"How Director Terry George Tackled the Armenian Genocide (Q&A)"

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/armenian-genocide-film-promise-director-928323

The film has already been targeted by Internet trolls for its controversial subject matter. The YouTube trailer has more than three times as many dislikes as likes, an atypical distribution for the social media site that may suggest a concerted PR campaign against the film.

That's what I saw on IMDB, too.

I followed the reactions on IMDB after I read on Sept.7, 2011 that it was about the Armenian Genocide.

Within 24 hours after the premiere on Sept.11, more than 60,000 votes, mostly 1/10, came in…

Since the movie was only shown 1 or 2 times in Toronto, this is impossible.

Something similar happened 2 months ago with another film, that was disliked by some groups in Turkey:

"Code Name: K.O.Z." (2015)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4458206/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Through group voting, the Turks made it within a few days the "1# worst film of all time":

Maybe IMDB should do something about the politically motivated Turkish fake voters ?

It's funny to watch a whole country voting on IMDB because they don't like a film,

but it has nothing to do with art anymore...

reply

Where did the money for this film come from?

Well, we were fully backed by the Kerkorian Foundation. And we had an Armenian-American production company. So we obviously had their support throughout the process.

Thanks for pointing out that the movie was funded by an Armenian billionaire.

reply

This is no secret.
It never was.
Somebody always pays.

Does this make the history behind the story false ?

And it's no secret, too, that "The Water Diviner" was co-produced by Turkey,
therefore the Armenian Genocide is never mentioned…

And your links point out that there's a clear bias involved in all this. The Water Diviner took place hundreds of kilometers away and years later. American Sniper didn't repent for WMD lies and only showed 9/11, did you see any protests about that?

While being funded by a directly interested party doesn't rule out that it might involve facts, it brings the need to be skeptic about the subject matter and not take the director's "it's all facts" claim at face value. Which is what would be done if a Turkish billionaire funded a movie about Armenian gangs gathering Turks in mosques and setting them on fire.

As for Schindler's List, Jews in Germany didn't join an invading country's army and formed gangs to kill Germans, so not much need for Spielberg to change anything.

reply

Jewish producers and a Jewish director behind Schindler's list.

I just saw that, omfg! Its a conspiracy, Schindler is fake and the holocaust must be a lie.
