These reviews are so discouraging. I thought this movie had a chance to be my first quarter favorite of 2017.

Try this; do not get hung up on plots especially with thrillers and sci-fi movies, there are always going to be cinematics, cgi, special effects. If you assign a balance of plot to cinematics then you can critique from there. Personaly and for example I am in favor of sci-fi of any description so yup always a great review. The trailers and screenshots look fascinating for this flick so I will watch regardless. I sometimes find badly rated movies to be great, maybe its just me :)
