Time travel is impossible, as it going faster than the speed of light. There must be something like the conservation of the present that says all matter and energy must be conserved in the present ... and balance out like a chemistry reaction equation. You cannot send a person back in time or forward in time because the place you are sending from is moving in space and time. So many movies are wasted on this bad idea. I don't think I've ever seen a really good time travel movie, with the possible exception of the Time Machine because it had a point, it was making a clever social commentary, and so far it is pretty right on.
If I can for free, I will. This looks a little peculiar though, about the Bermude Triangle? It looks more like horror than sci-fi, ... are you sure this is time travel?
It's related to the Bermuda Triangle, but it's mainly a time travel thriller. It's probably the best time travel movie I've seen so far (though I haven't seen 'primer' one yet, which is often said to be the best one https://xkcd.com/657/large/).
Triangle works very well as a thriller, and extremely well as a time travel movie. Every little detail counts. Far from shitty movies like 'Looper' that have more plot-holes than scenes. Avoid spoilers, though. And think that it's a movie that you'll enjoy even more the second time, since you can see how all the pieces fit together.
Too bad. I like time travel movies, and I have seen quite a few of them. If you don't like this one, I don't see any other one you'd like. It's a very specific genre, and it can't go any better.
There is no logical framework that could encompass time travel. If you change something in the past how can it affect the same world you came from? How much would it change? Then you have to go into thinking about parallel worlds and dimensions. I think it is ridiculous ... I hope it is ridiculous. I reject the idea that someone who does not even know me could come from the past change something about this world, and then all of a sudden our presents and futures are changed.
If you move forward in time your body is moving and thousands of miles per hour in space. The energy in that system is huge, but relative to humans it takes a lot of energy to drive across town, walk to the store, of fly across the world. If you were to back in time 20 seconds you have to find a way to translate your body hundred or thousands or for all we know millions of miles in space. What is between you and that old spot but time and lots of matter. Say you are moving in the direction of the Earth, so the Earth is now between you now, and where you were 20 seconds ago ... how do you propose that you can go back in time and find that place and get through everything that is between you now and you 20 seconds ago, let along 1000 years ago?
No one has ever seen or postulated such a thing as a wormhole except speculative fiction writers. I doubt it, but who knows. If there is such a thing we are not likely to find out about it in our lifetimes,
I like time travel films ..I liked Arrival because it made a point of the fluidity and non linear nature of time (while not really being a time travel film) ...but it makes a point that I found interesting.
Predestination blew my mind and I was surprised that they were able to make it coherent.
I also enjoyed Intersellar, The Terminator, Primer, Source Code, Edge of Tomorrow, Back to the Future, The Butterfly Effect, Frequency, Deja Vu, Time Lapse and many others I can't remember right now.
I'm not sure what difference its being possible makes on the nature of people's fantasy..In reality time gets away from us and betrays us but finding ways to control it is a fantasy that most people share.
It's also impossible for humans to have super human powers or animals to talk but fantasy gives us what we can't have in reality.
I did not really like the Arrival, but I have to admit it was at least a new and refreshing take on the theme. I forgot about Terminator ... that was a great movie. The other ones I could do without. I don't think Interstellar was the same genre. I am really picky about fantasy. I have to admit I enjoy Game of Thrones, so it cannot be all bad.
I'm picky about fantasy too but time travel is one genre that entices me..
I enjoy Game of Thrones also but I had to be talked into giving it a try. I'm not a fan of the whole medieval sword and sorcery genre and I thought that was all it was.
My enjoying GOT made me consider going outside my comfort zone and start giving other things I never would've considered a chance. That would include westerns, comedies and, god forbid,...even super hero movies. I'm likely to give anything a try now although there's still no guarantee I'll like it.
Predestination was coherent because it's based in a short story from Robert Heinlein, one of the greatest scifi writers ever.
That said, I didn't like the movie. It follows Heinlein's story closely but... damn, there's something missing, it's like a clone without soul. I love the short story, the movie felt... meh.
Both Terminator and Back To The Future were good. They were good enough to be exceptions to my dislike of the genre. Back to the Future was more of a comedy. But notice how everything gets more complicated and unreal as each new movie comes out, not to mention The Sarah Connor Chronicles. There are probably a few others that are not bad but in general for me, not interested mostly. I will see the new Terminator movie, but every one of them past the second one has been terrible.
What you seem to be struggling with is that time travel is *fiction* at least the way its portrayed in the movies is.
Because there is pretty much no actual correct answer , there will always be "paradoxes" in the movies they will never 100% make sense.
with regard to the fancy theories , there are a few different schools of thought regarding timelines and predestination , parallel universes etc etc.
these are debated endlessly by fans , and there is no correct answer ..
If you want one that really looks at the ins and outs of the theory - i recommend "Primer"
I also suspect you wont like it mainly because you say u dont like Ttravel movies.
I am not struggling with it ... do you think I don't that? The way it is portrayed
in fiction is always going to be silly. Movies based on time paradoxes have nothing
to do with real life, so therefore there is no real statement, or moral or point to
those movies.
I really hated Primer because it was so dry and boring to me. Like I said before,
I don't like time travel movies because it tends to work against any serious statement
or artistic point - in my opinion. I will overlook that in the case of something that is
really good like Terminator or Back to the Future ... which was a comedy. Even the time
machine was social commentary - and a good one, so I can forgive it. It made use of
Time Travel to make a comment about the plutocrats ... pluto, God of the underworld.
It is pretty brilliant actually.
i guess "Movies based on time paradoxes " like triangle and Time Crimes are a rare breed of scifi where the 'sci fi' is not just the background for some other story, but the story itself
