The title.

Not an important topic, but curious as to why the name of the film, Wilderpeople, is pronounced "weelder" and not "wild-er" people ?
If it's explained in the film, forgive me..I haven't seen it yet but the trailers look promising.

The kid Ricky has a thing for free-roaming Wildebeest. It's he who refers to himself and Hec as Wildepeople.
Dunno why the filmakers put that "r" in the title.

I don't know if I understood what you are asking but I discovered recently new zeland accent and how NZ people tend to read "e" or "i" as "ee"...but I might be wrong:)

reply

Because syllable breaks are between double consonants. Wil/der/peo/ple, not wild/er/peo/ple. These are people of the wilderness. Wilder(ness)people.
