Gonna make it into the top250?

It's easy to overlook this one, so hopefully it will..
But how high could this end up? It seems really visionary and well made!

reply

I think it will probably have a good enough rating to be in it (probably a little lower than it has now... maybe 8.2), but won't have enough votes to make the list.

Defeat awkwardness with maximum ridiculosity.

How many votes does a movie need for it to make the top 250

reply

25,000 I believe but there's still some weird algorithm involved. They don't weigh people who vote 1's and 10's as seriously I believe. Also, they take into account how often you vote. Top voters' votes hold more weight. Like if you look at a lot of those terrible Indian movies, they'll have like 50,000 votes, between 8.0 and 9.0 ratings, but still not in the Top 250 because of obvious "voter fraud" per se.

reply

Probably not. I enjoyed the movie a lot for what it was, but it doesn't deserve to be in the IMDB Top 250.

reply

It would rank it in my top 250.

reply

I doubt it. It's rated 8.4 right now, but it has less an 3,000 votes. IF it got the 60k votes required for entry into the top 250, it probably will have dropped to a 7.8 or something lower.

reply

You actually need 25k votes to enter the Top 250.

Today it is at 12,900 with an 8.1 rating. Up 8,000 from a month ago. it was released in the UK the middle of September AND...just released to NetFlix and Apple TV. If word continues to get out and ratings can stay high enough it has a fair chance of making it.

Right now Dog Day Afternoon and A Fistful of Dollars are at 249 and 250 with a rating of 8.1. Let me just say that...IMO this movie deserves to be above the 2 aforementioned films.

I feel very strongly that there are a LOT more people out there who would really LOVE this film. Taika Watiti's What We Do in the Shadows (sorry, might not have that title quite right) has 70,000 some votes and a rating of 7.6. If if got 70,000, surely HFTWP can get 25k.

reply

7.9 with 25k votes. Not going to happen. It's not worthy anyways.

I enjoyed it, gave it a 7.

Strong word of mouth following in the US. Would be nice if it got some added attention from awards. But they tend to favor really pretentious, depressing fare.
