I just can't get this out of my mind, not sure how important it is to the movie but..
What's with the hot water bottle/rubber and Ricky Baker's bed?
He always seemed happy or relieved emotionally after seeing and holding one.
It's warm and it was prepared for Ricky by Aunt Bella.

It's a NZ thing. Even in the summer, the nights in many areas get very chilly. People often sleep with hot water bottles to warm the mattresses or heating pads, rather than heat an entire house.
