Could this show put him back on the map?
I mean...it's really good. The fact that most people can't stand him and he is outdated is incorporated into the storyline in a clever way. This definitely looks like comedic genius to me.

shareClay's time has come and gone, but the writing on this is very sharp. I'd be surprised if it goes beyond this run of episodes, though.

Clay's time has come and gone
"Clay should've gone down the acting path 30 years ago instead of the Diceman routine, he would still be relevant today"
In the past five years, he appeared on the uber-cool Entourage show including the movie, Vinyl, and now his self-titled Showtime series...if that ain't relevant, it sure ain't dancing for coins or embarrassing yourself in a Super Bowl commercial mocking your previous fame, like many of these other Jabronis do.
Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
He's not relevant. His new show is very good, I'll give him that, but there doesn't seem to be a particularly high interest in it. I'll be very surprised if it gets renewed. His performance in Blue Jasmine was critically acclaimed, but he hasn't gotten any big film offers since. He's burned too many bridges in Hollywood with his Dice act.
shareWe'll agree to disagree...faded comedians who aren't relevant play 150 seat comedy clubs in Kansas City for peanuts....they don't get their own Showtime series and pack Vegas venues.

I don't know how far his new show will go but personally think it's pretty great and hope we get more seasons out of it.
