What’s the deal with the clicker?
Was it ever escplained?
shareYes, it was his father's. In World War II, paratroopers carried them when behind enemy lines as a way to communicate with other Allied Soldiers. If someone was approaching you'd use your clicker because it sounded like a cricket; if the person responded by using theirs, you knew they were on your side. He and Lucy discuss it at the beginning of episode 7:
S1E07 'Beauty and the Beast'
Lucy: Does this hurt? I'd never want to hurt you. (Referring to the scars)
Donald: The first few years I couldn't bear to be touched. Talking was torture because of the burns. But I adapted, learned to communicate with the tools at hand. [Clicks clicker] Kept me distracted, kept me from scratching my scars open.
