Meh

I'm a history egghead, and I thought this show had strong potential. Unfortunately, the acting is quite poor and the facts are lacking. What really lost me was the accent of the character, M. Rivard.

Dah FRENCH peePOLE in candaDA didENT speak like DAT in dah sevetenTEEN undREDS.

They were French, from France. They spoke with European French accents. Not the actor's fault - it's the director and dialect coach's fault.

Oh well.

My opinion is not humble.

I thought that too. It seemed suspicious that a Canadian show would depict the French accent so poorly. Guess there were no Quebecois around.

Clothes and people don't seem to ever get dirty, streets are clean, and buildings are beautifully maintained inside and put. Ships are spacious with lots of hidey holes, cruise ship fast, and the soldiers on board seem to all walk around in full kit complete with rifles. It's a shame really. I was hoping it would be closer to Deadwood for set design. The plot is meh.

Wha? The actors are dirty practically all of the time. So much fake dirt, man. So much of it.

It's on already?

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

Everybody seems to be nitpicking.

The accents are never going to be authentic unless you want the show to be unwatchable for Americans. Many characters wouldn't speak english especially the native people. There would be loads of French which would turn most viewers off. Even the era english would be harder to understand. So this is a compromise to make the show watchable while offering differing accents.
