Joel Edgerton as Forrest Gump!
When I watched him in the trailer all I could see and hear was Forrest GUMP!
shareHaving seen the movie, I have to say, regretfully, that Forrest Gump as played by Tom Hanks was considerably more charismatic and articulate than Richard Loving as played by Joel Edgerton is.
As skillful as Edgerton is in adopting an accent and mannerisms very different from his own, his version of Richard Loving strikes me as an unpleasant caricature that almost certainly insults the memory of the real man. If you look at the photos and film clips of the real Richard Loving, they all seem to reveal a person considerably more animated, alert, and pleasant--and therefore more worthy of, and compatible with, the charming and well-spoken Mildred--than what Joel Edgerton suggests.
Having seen the movie, I have to say, regretfully, that Forrest Gump as played by Tom Hanks was considerably more charismatic and articulate than Richard Loving as played by Joel Edgerton is.
He was certainly more animated than Ruth Negga though.
