Um...really? There was absolutely nothing about her acting in this movie that warranted an oscar nom. She's completely emotionless in this role. I barely believed her performance. A lot of the time it was as if she just wandered on set and people figured she was the lead actress and just went with it. Her nom came out of nowhere and it just seems like the Academy is trying way too hard to undo what it did with the whole "#OscarsSoWhite" thing.

I disagree. I like when actors go small. I thought the performance was really subtle and cool. Well deserved nomination.

Her performance was okay, definitely not Oscar worthy. She got the nominee on black quota, otherwise there are many other performances to consider who were not white or black or even American.
