shareI agree that the movie's choice of how to re-create that important event is probably a bad choice, but I doubt it's Ruth Negga's fault. Rather, I suspect it's basically the fault of the screenwriter and the director, both of whom seem to be caught up in American cinema's decades-long obsession with extreme inarticulacy as the supposed default mode of human behavior, particularly at highly emotionally charged moments.
shareAs one half of an inter racial relationship with children, I can imagine my reaction being the same as hers. Total awe and disbelief at the same time.
Things here in the UK are a lot different though.
I have a post here named "Ruth Neggas acting" and I'm talking about the same thing, i see that you and i are one of the few that agree, everyone defends her saying that she acted wonderfully and i don't know what I'm saying, i mean, just freaking admit, her acting was dry throughout the whole damn film, i understand that's how she was in real life, but putting that aside, it's still doesn't justify her wooden acting and annoying expressionless acting throughout the whole film, she in fact made the whole movie boring for me and there's many slow movies i love that was not the issue

Lol every review ive read has praised that scene aswell as the golden globe nomination.... pretty sure everyone else disagrees
shareI thought it was a damn good scene. You need to remember that not everyone reacts to things the same way, and also you have to take into account the times that were going on and the type of person that Ruth was playing in the movie.
She came off as someone that was very soft spoken and shy around anyone else but her family and friends. So for some lawyer who she knows nothing about to call and offer to help like that she'd be stunned. Anyone would be stunned when taking in that type of free help comes their way.
Agree 100%
shareI thought she was wonderful in the role and I wanted her to win the Oscar. The problem being I also wanted Amy Adams to win it for Arrival (and she wasn't even nominated!) and I was happy that Emma Stone won it for La La Land - I guess it was a good year.
shareFACT: Not everyone dances a jig upon hearing good news. Prove me wrong.
