You are trolling right ? The oscars have a huge racial history if you don't know that you are a fool! Eve the academy director said it lacks diversity. Sure they have awards in the past to Blacks but it's for very Degrading roles. Do some research before posting here!

here are YOUR words..."Sure they have awards in the past to Blacks but it's for very Degrading roles."

So please explain to us why all these roles were "very degrading," as you claim.

I have to agree with you and I think there are plenty of African American entertaininers who would also agree. I don't think that it's the Oscars that need to diversify as much as it is African American film makers needing to diversify. It's films like this one that are the majority of films being put out starring African Americans, but it's not a bunch of white guys making these films to sabotage the black actors, it's black film makers.

reply

Its funny how it is put on black film makers and actors. Isn't BET owned by Viacom lol

There are plenty of black films that are out there. The issue is the makeup of the higher ups. Thank God the Oscars had no choice but to diversify their nomination process. It's hard to get the proper spotlight when old white men from the 60's are judging the movies.

reply

And what were the roles for mostly "stereotypes ". That's all the academy awards. Now if the president : Cheryl Boone Isaacs of the academy who is Black by the way said , there is diversity issues on the voting panel. Who are you too argue with her? I know you don't like to hear this but it's true most of the ones who do the voting are out of touch old white men , that only awards stereotypes!

Take a look at This. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/cheryl-boone-isaacs-academy-president-statement-diversity_us_569e3587e4b00f3e9862c429

Think for yourself and quit hiding behind that same Boone article. And, yes, I'm well aware she's black. I'm sure I knew that before you even knew who she was. Why not look up some of her many past statements about how diverse the Oscars have become?

As far as the roles, "mostly stereotypes" is a cop out. Since you're so convinced of that, please explain why EACH role was a stereotype or demeaning. It'll take about a half-hour out of your busy life. Or you can be a coward and ignore it, proving you can't back up your statements.

And it's not all "old white men." That's nonsense. You're very easily led by hype and rumor.

Are you so blind you actually can't grasp the concept that 1) maybe some films/actors just weren't Oscar-level 2) There are always people snubbed, every year, of all races, and 3) That NOBODY deserves a nomination based on race alone?

reply

She said it to appease idiots like you who can't even defend their own opinion when they get called on their bullshyt. People humor those types. Bunch of psychos who have to create some lies to paint a picture that doesn't even exist to suit the narrative they want to hear. You got called on a nonsense claim that only black oscar winners were stereotypes or schucking and jiving, and now it's on to another bullshyt narrative instead.

You're life sucks. Stop blaming it on racism. The reality is, it sucks because you suck.

Same goes for Will Smith. He doesn't get a nomination because he sucks. He's a fuqqing hack playing pretend for fame and fortune. If acting paid shyt, and was only in crummy dinner theaters, he'd go find something else to satisfy his greed, lust, and stroke his massive ego. He doesn't show the craft any respect. He's a piece of shyt and people like you are the same, so you look up to that kind of person and defend their efforts to be pieces of shyt too.

reply

Except the only black person that deserved a nomination this year was Idris Elba and the only reason he didn't get it was because the movie was on Netflix

reply

Exactly. He definitely deserved a nom.

That Academy Award list left off James Baskett who was the first African American male to win an Academy Award for acting in 1948. His career went back to "Harlem is Heaven" in 1932 during the all black movie era. He was also on radio when Amos & Andy had a black cast. He was one of four people and movies to win a special Academy Award in 1948 because he had already died of heart problems when award time came.

He isn't politically correct enough for the PC censorship crowd and as a result "Song of the South" is outlawed in the United States. I had to buy an official Disney copy from England years ago.

This isn't the only movie treated this way. Try to find a copy of Porgy & Bess with Sidney Poitier and Dorothy Dandridge. You can see Porgy & Bess live on stage but not this movie. In this movie, based on a real crippled man in Charleston, Sidney Poitier is seen on his knees and you can't have that.

Samuel Smalls, the real Porgy, packed a pistol and would use it. He got around in a cart pulled by a goat and once had to be chased for blocks by the police before they caught him. He is buried at James Island Presbyterian Church where people leave small stones on his grave.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

reply

Baskett got an honorary Oscar. The list is only nominations and winners, not honoraries. Otherwise, others could be added such as Sidney Poitier and Spike Lee.

Just for the record, Song Of The South isn't outlawed in the US. It's just not offered by Disney here. Porgy & Bess is offered, but tough to find. Not impossible, but tough.

reply

yes just how blacks whined win White Chicks not getting Oscar nominations

reply

Baskett got an honorary Oscar because he was already dead. We don't have an official censorship board like England. Instead the US relies on self censorship for the media, entertainment and news. Why else would Disney choose not to sell the movie here but did in England?

I got my copy of Porgy and Bess with Dandridge and Poitier because the person offering it for sale on EBay was forced to take the listing down. I contacted her and bought it privately. This was a censorship thing

I got a couple of other movies with John Wayne that were not available for years. I think that might have been a contract dispute since both were written by Ernest K Gann. One was the High and the Mighty and the other was Island in the Sky. They were pirated VHS tapes at the time.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

reply

Baskett was very much alive when he got his Oscar. If he was dead, he's the best-looking corpse I've ever seen in the photos of Ingrid Bergman handing him his award.

Again, for accuracy's sake, that's not outlawed; it's Disney's choice. It's not illegal to sell a copy if you have it.

There are several copies of P&B, with Sidney and Dorothy, up on ebay right now.

reply

It appears Baskett was alive but died a few months later of heart problems stemming from diabetes. You can find his memorial at the Findagrave website along with other family members. According to it he studied pharmacology but moved to New York from Indianapolis. He teamed with Bill "Mr. Bojangles" Robinson and was on Broadway in 1929 with Louis Armstrong in Hot Chocolates before moving to Hollywood.

EBay does have some dvd's of Porgy and Bess with Sidney Poitier and Dorothy Dandridge. They must have loosened up. Before buying one check closely. Many are in the PAL format calling for a region 2 player or at least an all format video player. At least one gave Spain as the country of origin. I wouldn't be surprised if some are pirated in South Korea or China.

I still say if Disney won't put out a movie in this country but sells it in other countries that this is self imposed censorship so they can be politically correct.

James Baskett's picture hung for many years in the Crown Hill Funeral Home in his hometown of Indiaapolis until it was taken down due to complaints from political correctness fruitcakes.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

reply

I agree.. it is self-censorship. And it's stupid. But the movie still isn't outlawed, as in illegal. Maybe one day Disney will wake up.

reply

It's sad that 15% of the population whines 90% of the time.

If we are all equal then why do so many have to get special treatment
