Hockey parlance?

Sport-aloof Yank with a cultural query for our northern brethren: Having now seen this and Corner Gas several times I can't help but notice across two shows from different provinces and even decades, a certain quasi-patois spoken by hockey players. For instance, most every sentence ends in "boys," and most every huddle ends in "skoden." It goes far deeper, of course, involving an extensive Hockey-centric slang vocabulary and seemingly its own structure and accent. I see a ton of dictionaries/glossaries of terms and phrases, but I'm more interested in the origins of the language as a whole, especially how it sounds. Does it all trace back to one iconic team's chirping/beaking? One iconic player? This linguaphile would be grateful for any hints to further research.
