A quote from Voltaire and book recommendations

To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.
-Voltaire

Done a lot of research on this. I believe people of my generation 40's and 50's age group were the first in the 1970's to get bombblasted with the images (some not real) at a young age in school. I don't believe and correct me if I am wrong but no one knew nor cared or heard about the holocaust until maybe the late 1960's to early 1970's. Then the industry took off.

My motivation to understand more on WWII was the fact I graduated college still believing WW2 was about Hitler killing the Jews. Number #1 I wanted to understand how a devil type person could have existed in my lifetime and #2 I did not want to sound uneducated among my peers and wanted to find out what the jews did to make Hitler so mad. (In retrospect WWII and the history leading up to it is much bigger than the simple holocaust explanation)

In the end the most objective books providing facts on WWII and allowing me to make my own opinion without interjection by the author's was

William Shire's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich

and Timothy Snyder's books. He is the Bird White Housum Professor of History at Yale University. (and married to a jewish wife)

1 Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin (Basic Books, 2010).
2 Thinking the Twentieth Century With Tony Judt. (Penguin, 2012).
3 Black Earth: The Holocaust as History and Warning. 2015

As well as archived docs online for example Germany's bundesarchiv has plenty of documentation from then to research in order to start forming your own opinion on the events.

I hate to say this...but folks like David Irving have provided actual documentation proof from the archives where the other side seems to provide only emotional biased stories. I don't think we need to call this revisionist history yet because this event is barely even history. There are plenty of people much closer to the events and people with parents and grandparents who have a version of events which have not been allowed to repeat or simply they have lived in Eastern Europe and we had no access to them until recently.

I think these holocaust denial laws in Europe are ugly and do a disservice mostly for the intelligent Jews who want the rest of the world to understand the true events. If everything they say is true they should gladly welcome any challenge. Again this happened not to long ago and there are still as I write new facts emerging from the archives of the eastern European countries of which we only got access to recently.

I don't think people who question the holocaust are out to hurt anyone. No one should object to people learning more and trying to understand how this "Evil Devil" could have existed in our life time and whether he was a "Evil Devil". Especially older Americans who may have been subjected to the very biased teachings in elementary school. The problem with the holocaust is the Jews seem to want us to believe they suffer and hurt more than others and that simply is not true. Otherwise when trying to bring attention to this subject in the 1960's, 1070's why did they not work on bringing attention to all 20 million plus deaths of WW2 and only to their ethnic group? Why did they not try to get the same financial reparations for all people who suffered during WWII including the German refugees after the war and only money for their Jewish tribe? Why did they not help get reparations for the Latvians and Estonians who suffered under Stalin or the Ukrainians who suffered 3 million deaths by brutal artificial famine imposed by Stalin's regime called the Holordor.

Many many questions...

The source of your quote is the white-power type Kevin Alfred Strom. He's a neo-Nazi, a white-power type, and a Holocaust denier, so presumably he's a hero of yours.

That Holocaust deniers go around misattributing this to Voltaire is a demonstration of the basic gullibility required to be a Holocaust denier. It also shows that, at strenuously as the old-schoolers try to pretend it's not so, Holocaust denial and racist neo-fascism go hand in hand. As if anyone needed more proof.

Then you don't know what actual historians provide and have fallen for Irving's characterization of it, just the same way that you fell for a Voltaire quote that wasn't Voltaire.
