Rachel Weisz offensive portrayal as a Jewish person
I'm Jewish and I thought I was watching a spoof of a Jew.
Rachel Weisz is actually Jewish, she seems to have portrayed a Jewish role you don't care for. I thought she was great.
Oh, and I'm offended that you are offended.
The accent was meant to be over the top Jewish, and also when she arrived in England and had to pay for her cab ride, it showed her scrounging in her purse for exact change; hyping up the stereotype that Jewish people are cheap.

if she was so cheap, why did she overpay the taxi driver, who prompty returned the excess amount and said verbatim she was overpaying?

No, the accent was meant to be accurate Queens. If you think that's "over the top," you haven't heard many native New Yorkers lately, and you definitely haven't heard Lipstadt herself.
And yes, her fumbling with unfamiliar currency in London comes straight from the book.
I am a Native NYer and having someone portray NYC accents is in no way offensive. Same goes for whether the actress portraying a Jewish historian is actually Jewish or not. It's Hollywood. The taxi scene shows her paying too much because as an American she is likely tipping the taxi driver 20% when in London people tend to round up to the nearest pound which would never amount to 20%. It was reference to her being American not a Jewish NYer. No need to be offended but certainly you can be offended if you'd like.
