What's the significance of the missing flower that alerted Baldwin? Ep-1

Was that to signal Howard was there? I don't get how that nurse just took that flower then somehow Baldwin took it as a bad sign and made her retreat. I thought the nurse was working for them but she questioned her thereafter when she started stepping backwards then I think she got shot.

Baldwin had been scouting the hospital, noting the daily, normal details. She knew that every day, without fail, Howard took a flower from the bunch for his wife and put it in the vase at the nurse's station. Howard neglected to tell other Howard of this little detail when he hold him 'I bring my wife flowers every day'. So when Baldwin clocked this, she knew something was up.

Ah, so that's how she knew... thx.

Actually - didn't he tell the other Howard at the last second to give one to the nurse? And he just blew the advice off. Maybe I'm misremembering.

If I remember right, at first Howard didn't tell his other one about the flowers, but later he did. And I agree with RogueDemonHunter about how Baldwin figured out the significance of the missing flowers. At least that's all my recollection.
