Episode 7: SPOILERS I Am Astonished By Peter's Lack Of Professional Discipline, But Even More Moved By His Human Frailty

Neither of the Howard Silks is in this episode to almost any extent at all, yet I feel it is the most powerful and best-written episode thus far. We get to see the training and indoctrination of Their Shadows, the clandestine agents they send to Our Earth to punish us for Their belief that We sent Them a virus that killed 7 percent of their human population. The dedication of that training is the same as the dedication of The Chinaman in the movie, The Prestige, i.e., superhumanly total. We see Their Howard, on Our Earth, sort that Clare is a Shadow, and tell Our Peter, who is married to Shadow Clare, that she is a Shadow agent, and then we see Our Peter just toss the intel all away and let
Shadow Clare know that he knows. On first viewing, I had boundless
contempt for Peter's weakness and self-indulgeance. I enjoyed thinking about what Their Howard will do to him. On second viewing, I marvel at what a classic tragic scenario this is. Discipline and professionalism be
damned. Peter is placed in an IMPOSSIBLE situation that no human can overcome, and he succumbs to his humanity in his grief for the woman he loved, who he now knows has been dead for years. My respect for Counterpart keeps growing. I welcome and invite your thoughts.
