A Texan who doesn't know what a honky tonk is?

Plot hole, my man.

reply

She's not playing herself.

Fiction, man.

reply

She tells him that she's from San Antonio in the show.

reply

Uh, I'm talking about the character who is from Texas as per their long conversation about it on the airplane.

reply

I think the bigger plot hole is that a Texan is dating a minority.

That was tongue in cheek, but that's how seriously I took your post.

reply

Well, I meant it really seriously.

reply

She also doesn't have a gun or execute retarded people. Are those also plot holes?

reply

You must not live in Texas. You're still alive.

reply

You must live in Texas. You are not as clever as you think you are.

reply

I think the bigger plot hole is that a Texan is dating a minority.

I guess you've never been to Austin, interracial couples are VERY common.

Not all of Texas is redneck back-country, you ignoramus.
That aside, even people that grew up in the South are starting to date outside their race more. Traditional stereotypes are being trumped.

I am well aware of how liberal Austin is. It is often referred as a blueberry in the tomato soup.

Not all of Texas is redneck back-country, you ignoramus.

The character the OP is referring to is from San Antonio, not Austin. Just b/c one very small part of an incredibly large state is liberal doesn't mean it's the norm there.

So no, not all of it. Just most of it.

Lastly, try reading the context of what you are responding to. It's very clear I was joking. In fact, I flat out said I was. You must have missed that.

reply

It's not too surprising that she's dating a minority. Girl from conservative Texas who moves out of the state. She was probably rebelling against her conservative parents.

reply

Except that not everyone and not all of Texas is conservative, and especially not conservative enough to care what race someone is. But keep sticking to your stupid stereotypes.

reply

I think that was what I was saying right? An Ivy league educated girl who escapes Texas and goes to NYC is obviously going to be pretty liberal. If she was conservative, chances are that she would have stayed local to Texas.

reply

But to do that you were also saying that her parents, by default since they are from Texas are conservative and racist.

reply

If not Republicans, they probably at least have conservative leaning views, and it would be unlikely that they would be floored with her dating a brown guy.

reply

Not really, but again, keep sticking to your dumb stereotypes.

reply

Obviously, y'all have not been to San Antonio. The city normally votes Democrat. Julian Castro was the mayor here before he went to be head of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under Obama. The city is very racially diverse, more so than many due to the military influence in the city. Before y'all start deriding a city, please know your facts.

Thank you,
A Citizen of San Antonio

It's surprising you missed my sarcasm that I actually mentioned in the post you responded to. Try reading more than one post before jumping on that soapbox next time. Context is a very very pretty girl. Get to know her. She's wonderful. 

reply

She was born in Texas but they never said how long she lived here. All we know is that she went to Penn and then moved to NYC. However, her grandmother is in NYC and her sister or brother are also in the area, so it is highly possible/probable that she moved from San Antonio when she was young.

reply

She told him she is from San Antonio. Not just born there.

reply

So you want to get into a semantics debate over something so minute? At this point you are just being a douche.

reply

The OP seems to be having trouble with the concept that you can be "from" somewhere and not have lived there for very long.

Maybe she moved away when she was 3 or 4 or 5 or any age from her early childhood. Honestly, I can't believe this is even a topic.

reply

Seriously. And I really hate when morons call something that they don't understand/too dim to figure out a "plot hole".

reply

I was just making a lighthearted joke, but I guess subtlety is lost on you. What are you, Aziz?

reply

No you weren't, you thought you were being a clever douche until no one agreed with you so now you are playing it off as a joke. Even if you were joking, it wasn't clever. It was just dumb.

reply

I was just making a lighthearted joke, but I guess subtlety is lost on you.

I love when people play this card. "I was kidding. Can't you take a joke?"

You are a stranger. No one here knows anything about you other than the stupid thing you said that they are forced to take at face value. Maybe the subtlety of that sledgehammer will be lost on you?

What are you, Aziz?

Yes, Aziz Ansari is the only person in the world that thinks you are a moron.

reply

Not just that, OP has trouble with concepts like not every single person from a/born in a particular area has to be exactly the same. OMG, a person from Texas doesn't adhere to every single Texan stereotype!!!

reply

I'm from Texas and don't know what a honky tonk is. No one I know does.

reply

I'd never heard the term before, I'm assuming it's because its kinda racist and outdated so people (young) don't use it.

reply

I grew up in Texas and got away after collage. Honky Tonk was used as a put down for people that went to bars and drank and cut up.

This particular character may be a little too young to now that term. I don't think it is used as often any more.

We're going " honky tonking " = white trash out all night drinking. LOL

reply

I've always heard that "honky tonk" refers to a particular type of country music (like the kind that was playing in the bar in Nashville when Dev and Rachel danced). It's not a racist term, at least not where I'm from (and I'm from West Texas).

reply

A" honky" is an eastern European. It's a very racist term for immigrants dating back to the 1930's when a lot of Poles and Czechs and Hungarians (Honky) came by boat and worked as stevadores on the docks. The term "bohunk" mixes Bohemian origin and eastern European. I happen to be a proud bohunk also known as the daughter of the Great Austro-Hungarian Empire which stretched quite far until recently. Nothing in the slightest to be ashamed of. Not like the Slovenians and the Rumanians.Lol.The Country of Austria is first mentioned in 990. The town I was born in was established in 1010. It has 2 breweries, one established in 556 and 2 castles. One I lived in due to post war shortages. Don't consider me an immigrant. Think of me as visiting royalty.
