I thought it was a nod to Douglas Adams' books but not the case. It references Jackie Robinson.

But perhaps that makes "Who is Jackie Robinson?" the ultimate question. This is possibly a question only an American can answer without resorting to google.

I thought that, too. It's cool as a Jackie Robinson reference, but it kinda fits the movie as a Hitchhiker's reference, too.
