I wrote this exact same story in 2009

Of course I don't have pull like spike. I just find it amusing that my script was a musical too. It was given to an African American producer who thought it showed people in too negative of a light.

Oh well. I hope spike does a good job with it. I just heard they were shooting on the north side though. I guess the south side is too dangerous to shoot a movie about it in it's true location.

Is the script online? How would you know it's the same story?

reply

Is that true that it's shooting on the north side?

How far north are we talking?

Because it is night and day comparing the true southside with the northside. The touristy places on the northside are still fit for a TV commercial. They are completely safe and trouble can easily be avoided.

You get into the heart of the city or go to the real southside and it becomes harder to avoid. I will say though for the most part, in my experience you can avoid trouble if you aren't into the "life" meaning fighting, gangs, drugs, etc. You can get robbed or beaten up here but gangs and criminals tend to stick with committing violent crimes on each other.

You rarely hear about murders of regular citizens.

Last I heard some filming was occurring in Wicker Park, which is the near West side as far as I'm concerned. The media here was calling it the South side, which is BS. Wicker Park is part of West Town. Spike hosted a wrap/block party in Englewood which the Alderman attempted to squash, but as far as filming there? I have my doubts. It seems he's done about 3 weeks of filming, and if that is what Spike needs to explain Chicago's issues, or to make a comedy out of them...whatever.

Some neighborhoods North are pretty bad Beanie. If you're talking River West or Lakeview yeah it's pretty picturesque and touristy. I left the North side last year. The 2 neighborhoods I lived in have some issues (Rogers Park & Edgewater) and it's really a block by block situation and I really started to worry about safety, like all of the time... Sometimes the "life" comes to you while waiting for the bus. Regular citizen Wil Lewis and is an example.

The fact that City Hall spins & spins what is happening and basically controlling the local media sucks. But there are plenty of alternative resources to get the truth. This is one fabulous article that was published yesterday along with a link in there to a documentary called Chiraq. I highly suggest it over Spike's "comedy" Chiraq.

Yeah Rogers Park sucks. My guess is if Loyola University weren't based in Rogers Park it would be much worse than it already is.

Did you take it up with the WGA yet?

Get yourself a credit, and of course an out-of-court settlement and the accompanying $$$

Chi-raq is based on the Greek play, Lysistrata, written in 411 BCE. The main female in the movie is named Lysistrata. No one stole anything from you. They did shoot on the southside.

Yeah, fine, OP, but Aristophanes still has you beat by thousands of years.

I think there should be a system in place for people that make these posts where they are automatically picked up and placed in a mental hospital for evaluation.

Why? It's not possible for him to have written a similar story back in 1999?

reply

How long have you been around on IMDB? Not to mention how old are you? Just about everywhere you look on here some yahoo has claimed to have written a script and had it stole from him. Not to mention if you live long enough you will have met these crazies on person. You know the type that claims they have seen and done everything despite being caught in lie after lie. Most of them have never even been out of state. Some people are just really detached from reality.

A Miami Tail -- a direct-to-video flick -- updated Lysistrata back in 2003. Don't know if it was a musical.

it will be a piece of crap just like all of the trash he directs.
