4.4 and 78??
Has 4.4 on imdb but 78 on meta critic?
shareCritics are afraid to pan this movie out of fear of being labeled as racist or non caring about the gun violence issue in Chicago.
share...Or maybe it's the other way around: People downvoting a movie they haven't seen because they hate Spike Lee or are just blatantly racist.
shareThank you. These mofos wrote long azzz think pieces before they even saw the film. I waited because I already know I'm unfairly biased in trivial ways against Chicago in general (rusty, dusty hussling always complaining and fronting mofos that is only anecdotal and you know, biased) and Spike can't write well-rounded women characters to save his life, so I figured I'd hold off on any early hateration.
But others started dragging it before it was even screened so that made me suspicious. Usually if Negroes complaining like that so early in the process that's a sure sign they feel a lot is at stake and fear somebody is going to eff it up for everyone -- but it also means whatever is the subject of such preemptive scrutiny is a must see.
Exactly. This happens with his movies all the time. I'm not even a big Spike Lee fan.
It's ok to like more than one actor. :))
Yeah, about that... one of the few rave reviews was by an old white guy who only likes art-house movies (http://www.newyorker.com/culture/richard-brody/spike-lees-necessary-overwhelming-chi-raq) because he thought it was a masterpiece. And more than a few black people (especially people from Chicago:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0zeMjQoe1k) and a lot of liberals, have nothing but hatred for it because they think it is racist (http://www.thenation.com/article/chi-raq-reveals-spike-lees-outdated-race-politics/).
I love it when the outrage streams get crossed. I don't have any opinion because I haven't actually seen it, but all the controversy (legit or not) actually makes me curious to see it now.

Yes. Also, I think black works here are generally underrated.

At least if you're gonna slam racism, do it without making racist comments using assumptions based on absolutely nothing, or your personal observations, whatever. Same thing really.

ummmmm, it could be that it's a politically charged movie for a niche audience and it's a musical.

its not a musical
shareyes. it. is.

I don't care what people say it is. It ain't a musical. Just because people say those segways with no handlebars are hoverboards doesn't make them hoverboards. Musicals actually have musical numbers or performance that advance the plot. This just has musical numbers or performance within the plot. If this is a musical than so is Purple Rain or any biopics about music artists. The point I'm trying to make here is, that just because it has alot of music doesn't make it a musical.
sharelook, man, you are arguing semantics with me. I and other people will continue thinking of it as a musical, whether it fits your constructs of a musical or not, most people will view it as one.
So, since the OP wanted to blame white people and play the race card for Chi-raq A MUSICAL not doing well at the BO, I was right to point out that it's because few people like musicals, and even less like black/ethnic musicals. Basically the venn diagram says that at the intersection of predominantly black film and musical is box office flop.
now, go on doloemite and get back to producing fatherless kids who will contribute nothing to society and leach off of the working class while you pimp hoes and live a life of degenerate sloth and anger against "the white man"....

This is a musical. I'm sorry, but that's what it is. Is it a drama too? Sure. It even has some comedy in it...
