Agreed. I had doubts about him playing a thug, but was pleasantly surprised that he was able to nail the role so well.

Atleast Nick has more actual acting experience than Kanye, who has merely played himself in the movies! :/

The crazy thing is, Nick was not the principle actor in the movie. He did his parts to help keep his character relevant, but for the most part Teyonah Parris and Angela Bassett delivered at least 50% of the spoken dialog.

he's an actor. doesn't matter that you think he's not tough as nick cannon. he wasn't playing nick cannon, he was playing chiraq.

he was fine in the role. decent. not stellar, not horrible. he pulled off his rhymed verses well, i thought.

Were you expecting Spike to cast a lead actor who actually has a few murders and charges under his belt? GTFOH with this nonsense.

Did the movie need "street cred?" SMH. Some folks are unbelievable.

Btw, did you even see the movie? If so, you might have noticed some former gang members in the cast as extras.

damn, this is a really good point.

people's disdain of nick cannon as lead because he is "soft" or not "a real gangsta" really reveals a lot about their expectations of black actors.

i just wanna add on and reiterate that it's acting - that's the point...it's to become something that you are not.

Nick Cannon was really good and effective in the role, and he's been acting for years---people who have only seen him as the America's Got Talent host seem to forget that.
