But Would Withholding Sex Actually Reduce Violence or Increase It?

I don't know, seems like a bunch of stressed-out, horny guys would make the violence problem even worse...

Studies seem to indicate that sexual repression increases violent tendencies--like mass shooters in America who can't get laid to save their life OR Taliban members who have barely seen a woman naked before.

reply

This has happened in real life before and it worked. Earlier this year I remember NPR talking about it in some African country in the 80's or 90's and it was a success, so it works. The mass shooters usually have mental problems, psycho, and/or on a bunch of meds.

I never saved anything for the swim back.

reply

The violence at the top of civilization has never been stopped. Small time retail violence at the bottom may have been stopped, but it doesn't stop the presidents from getting laid and Henry Kissinger, and scum bag soldiers who drop bombs on civilians and massacre innocent Palestinians with bombs and embargoes. It just wastes effort to deny the guilty and innocent sex when it's really an individual and societal issue.

reply

Everyone who pays taxes to a standing army and the racist thug police supports violence in their own way.

reply

How well it works depends on how monogamous the guys are.

Could be a goldrush for the neighborhood whores.

-and even if they won't then there are other neighborhoods and other whores.

reply

It's a satire from ancient Greece. Don't take the sex strike so literally.

Women, especially mothers have great power. Any woman who allows her man to go to war is no woman.

reply

Well it's a good question though, and worthy of a debate of it would work or not...

But most studies have shown that a lot of mass shooters and Islamic State fighters actually have too little sex as it is, and more sex usually reduces violence.

Not sure if that really applies to criminals though...

reply

It works maybe in a smaller scale or limited success like what's written on the Wikipedia page for 'Sex Strike'. Bigger scale,global...worldwide.....hah!

reply

It also begs the question of why these women would have relationships with violent men in the first place?

I get that it's metaphorical and from an old Greek tale, but it's just such a weird, gross premise for a movie that I can't see anyone being compelled to see it apart from high art types i.e. not speaking to the real problem of gang violence at all.

reply

Sigh. Obviously not. But I see the very real issues this film touches on is just forcing people to insist on seeing the whole thing as realism.

reply

But if it would work, then why not try it?

I'm asking if it would, and looking for cases why or why not...why sigh at discussing ideas?

reply

Forgive me, sometimes I forget I'm on the internet...
So your question was serious?
If so, one word:

RAPE

In the real world, including the one of Aristophanes, the reality of rape, sexual assault, molestation, abuse, is one that remains a present threat and reality. I'm not saying that such a strategy might not work in isolated scenarios, but for the most part, any such organizing would have to take this into account and have plans based on this. Could result in more violence, IJS.

reply

I was wondering if the movie would cover rape or masturbation.

Good girls go to heaven, all the bad bitches come with me

would basically make witholding sex completely useless. In fact, infiniate internet porn, illegal prostitiution, and women who enjoy sex and would just say "nuts to that!" would already make withholding sex a stupid and useless idea.
