I don't get it

Instead of a sex strike, why not just dump their banger boyfriends and date some decent men instead? Only a small percentage of men in Chicago is involved in the violence, so comparison with ancient Greek city states and warfare doesn't really fly.
But that's Spike Lee I guess. Half-baked as usual.

its from justin to kelly the black version

reply

That made me literally laugh out loud :)

"Whatever happened to Fay Wray?"

reply

You're right, you don't get it.

reply

Then enlighten me.

reply

Nope.

reply

You didn't get it did you? Or else you wouldn't ask why didn't they?

This is a movie based on a play from hundreds of years ago.

reply

Houndreds of years ago? Try thousands, 5th century BCE. I am familiar with Lysistrata, and have made a reference to it in my OP ("Greek city states"). What I am saying is that Chicago and its gang violence is not really like ancient Greek city states and their militarism at all.

ALL men were barred from sex in the film, not just "the bangers."

"Please disabuse yourself of the notion that my purpose on earth is to tuck ignorance in at night."

So most of those punished by these women are completely innocent.

Typical misandrist feminism that declares all men guilty for what some men do and punishes us all ...

reply

I did kind of feel some type of feminist agenda type of vibe from the movie. Basically saying men go dumb as sh** when they don't get sex. With the marine going crazy and having to be wheeled out on a gurney.

Basically the message I got was, you want to control the world, just hold out on sex with men. Women have the power to hold out and that's supposed to make them better than us because we act as if we can't operate without getting it. Put it shortly, woman smart. man is a violent horny dumbass.

Good girls go to heaven, all the bad bitches come with me

reply

I don't think the movie is going for realism, hopefully not anyway.

reply

Yeah I have no idea why he picked Lysistrata out of all plays to base this kind of narrative around. I mean Holy Bad Implications, Batman, Spike did NOT think this one through at ALL...
