LOL at when half the movie viewers were led to think that...

...girl was Josh Hutcherson daughter. While she was his little sister.

And whats with the aunt? Why on earth she wanted to take that girl from him like he was some random dude. He was her nephew also. And movie gave lazy explanation how "she just wants that big check from government'

But... it means that brother was having that big check. Yet he was broke and on the brink of eviction. So that check wasn't that big at all. And aunty didn't like that girl too much. And girl didn't like her back. So none of it made sense.

At first I thought that Josh was having wife who gave birth. And then died at some point. And now mother of that dead wife wants to take her granddaughter because Josh is bad father and that girl is only thing that she has left from her daughter. That was way more realistic.

Your version of this movie digresses too much from the main plot.

The version of the actual movie digresses too much from the main plot!

He never said the girl was his daughter, and the aunt wanted to take his sister from him because he was constantly getting in trouble with the low. I mean, he literally punched the hell out of a guy over a misunderstanding in the opening of a film, and could have easily gotten sued for assault----he was clearly crazy and a damn public nuisance who shove have went to jail over that.

There was some time before it was publicly revealed she is his sister. Before that he came from work, talked to her, to her nanny and stuff. It it all looked like he was a father coming from work. Giving the age. Actor is 31 in real life and girl is 8, while in movie her character is 10 years. Dont know what age he was supposed to be in movie.

And he said in movie at one point that his aunt only wants to take his sister because she wants big paychek form government. That was he motivation in movie. She despised her nephew, calling him names and didnt give a crap about girl too. Her motivation for existing as second villain in this movies was weak.

Still makes no sense whats up with the aunt. She conspired even with the Nanny and her brother to do a crime to get him fired. There was never an attempt to explain why she wanted the girl so hard except just to have her. The cheque clearly wasn't the reason, but she not even tried anything to convince her when she was alone.

reply

She hated Mike so maybe she only wanted Abby in order to separate the siblings.

reply

Exactly! She must have been one of the people who blamed him for what happened to Garret. Stupid, I know, but this world is full of stupid people.

Did you miss the part where the main character was abusing drugs?

He's not exactly the most reliable narrator. A side affect of abusing drugs is paranoia, so it's suffice to say that he had some and that was his explanation of why the aunt wanted it, but the aunt seemed to imply that she wanted custody because he was on drugs. She said something like "Look, it's 10 o clock and he can't even keep his eyes open."

Movie very well established that aunt did not like girl or cared. And Girl hated her too. And aunt went as far as hiring criminals to spy on brother and then trash his work place. Aunt was a villain with clear motivation. And it was a plot hole.

reply

No, the movie did not establish that she didn't care. In fact, it implied the opposite as she was spending way more money than some government check would ever pay her by hiring a lawyer and thugs, as you claimed.

It's not a plot hole. She wanted the girl because the protagonist is clearly a substance abuser and a sketchy person.
