By having Hopper live, that means the letter he wrote to Eleven had no sentimental value if he was alive the whole time.

I don't like the fakeout death, but I also don't think he finished the season redeemed by any means.

What do you mean? are you taking "not the american" in that scene at the russian base at the end as confirmation? I only saw it as a maybe, I mean everyone else in the room exploded when the lazer machine was sabotaged, why would Hopper survive?
