They Ran The Boston Marathon Today
They ran the Boston Marathon, my city’s annual Rite of Spring, today. Only 2 seconds separated the first and second runners after 26.2 miles. The winner in the men’s division of the disabled athletes was the youngest winner at Boston in history, at age 20. Mainer Joan Benoit Samuelson, a Boston women’s Champion and Gold Medalist in the first Olympic Women’s Marathon in history, ran today, at age 61, and finished in 3:09. The crowds were massive and exuberant. It rained, and no one minded. Those evil, bastard, cowardly bombers failed completely. You cannot destroy the Boston Marathon. You cannot intimidate this city. I am very happy and proud to have made her my home.
